Free COVID-19 shots available at Bedford County fair
BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A family fun tradition continues this year in Bedford County after a year-long hiatus due to COVID-19, the Bedford County Fair.
Monday July 26th admission is $5 for Family Day and free for any Military Personnel or Veterans with a proper ID. The fun kicks off at the Bedford County Fairgrounds at 9 am and goes until 11 pm with a lot to checkout from rides to 4-H members showcasing their animals, a petting zoo, chainsaw artists and more. But there’s something new this year that organizers added to help keep the community safe, free COVID-19 vaccines.
Bedford Family Health Center partnered with the fair to administer the free vaccines on July 26th and 27th from 10 am until 4 pm at Jordan Hall at the fairgrounds. The Moderna vaccine will be given and if you want the shot you don’t have to pre-register or have insurance. Health officials say you just need to fill out some paperwork once you get there and they’ll schedule you for a second dose. Free vaccines will also be given on the last day of the fair July 31st from 9 am until 3 pm.
“We figure they're probably at the fair already and it's just more of a convenient location that they're already going to be at so they don't have to make an appointment they don't have to take off work for anything. So hopefully they're there and they just see that it's readily available so we will be able to hopefully see a good turnout,” said Victoria Black executive assistant for Hyndman Area Health Center.
Tuesday through Saturday admission into the fair will the $10 with different events happening throughout the day. Organizers say they’re excited to bring some family fun back into the area this summer.
“It's really exciting because the big thing is it’s for the kid’s agriculture and their animals and things like that and they lost that last year so we're so excited they could do it again this year,” said Jim Edwards president of the fair board.
